Creamy, versatile and naturally rich in protein, cottage cheese works in everything from dips and savoury bowls to viral flatbreads and chocolate desserts.

If you’ve spent any time scrolling through food inspiration lately, you’ve probably noticed cottage cheese popping up everywhere. Once considered a fairly old-school fridge staple, it’s having a serious comeback.

Here are five simple ways to get on board with the cottage cheese trend.

Whipped Cottage Cheese & Veggie Dip

Give your usual veggie sticks a protein-packed upgrade with a creamy cottage cheese dip.

You’ll need:
½ cup cottage cheese, 1 tsp lemon juice, fresh dill or chives, garlic powder, salt and pepper, plus cucumber, capsicum, celery and a small amount of carrot for dipping.

Simply: Blend the cottage cheese, lemon juice, herbs and seasonings until completely smooth and creamy. Serve chilled with crunchy vegetable sticks.

Savoury Cottage Cheese Protein Bowl

This is the kind of lunch or snack that looks impressive but takes only a few minutes to put together.

You’ll need:
½ cup cottage cheese, ½ avocado sliced, 1 boiled egg, sliced cucumber, salt, pepper and chilli flakes or everything-bagel seasoning.

Simply: Spoon the cottage cheese into a bowl and arrange the avocado, egg and cucumber alongside it. Season to taste and you're done.

For extra protein, add smoked salmon, shredded chicken or a little tuna.

Viral Cottage Cheese Flatbread

If you've seen cottage cheese flatbread all over social media, this is your sign to try it.

You’ll need:
1 cup cottage cheese, 2 eggs, ¼ tsp garlic powder, ¼ tsp Italian herbs, salt and pepper.

Simply: Blend everything until smooth. Spread the mixture thinly and evenly onto a lined baking tray and bake at 180°C for around 30–35 minutes, or until golden and set. Allow it to cool slightly before peeling away the baking paper.

Use it as a low-carb alternative to a traditional wrap and fill with chicken, avocado and salad, ham and cheese, or tuna and cucumber.

Chocolate Cottage Cheese Mousse

Yes, cottage cheese can do dessert too.

You’ll need:
½ cup cottage cheese, 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder, ½ tsp vanilla extract and your preferred low-carb sweetener to taste.

Simply: Blend everything until completely smooth and creamy, then refrigerate until chilled.

Loaded Cottage Cheese Snack Bowl

Once you've mastered the basic savoury bowl, it's easy to mix things up.

Start with ½ cup cottage cheese and build your bowl with whatever low-carb ingredients you have in the fridge.

Try combinations such as avocado + cucumber + chilli flakes; boiled egg + avocado + cracked pepper; smoked salmon + cucumber + dill; or chicken + avocado + a squeeze of lemon.

It's an easy way to turn cottage cheese into a quick breakfast, lunch or afternoon snack without needing a complicated recipe.

So is Cottage Cheese worth the Hype?
